Cook in Tuscany 2021

We just love Tuscany!

This page is incomplete - need to add post-cooking trip to Parma, Pisa, and Florence.

Day 1 - October 1, 2021

  • We flew to Italy via SFO – Munich - Florence

Day 2 - October 2, 2021

  • Arrive in Florence in the morning

  • Stay at cool hotel, Grand Hotel Cavour Florence, with painted ceilings

  • Spend time walking around Florence, mainly near the hotel

  • Rooftop terrace at sunset, overlooking the Duomo

  • Nice dinner

  • Late night drink on rooftop terrace

Day 3 - October 3, 2021 - Drive Florence to Montefollonico SI, Italy

  • Perfect coffee and breakfast in Florence in view of the Duomo - I can't even...

  • Go to airport and get car

  • Drive to Monteffollonico, the walled city.  Just outside these walls is where the La Chiusa Hotel is, and where the cook in Tuscany experience takes place, and springboards from.

  • Check in and order a bottle of wine and sit in front of hotel taking it all in

  • Work a little

  • Welcome dinner – Cook in Tuscany group

Day 4 - October 4, 2021 - Cook in Tuscany

  • Cooking class at La Chiusa

    • Red sauce

    • Eggplant parmesan

    • Chicken wrapped in pancetta

    • Biscotti

    • Pici pasta

  • Lunch of the above dishes that we made at La Chiusa

  • Departure to Montepulciano

    • Stop at winery – Azienda Agricola Cannetto

    • Visit San Biagio

    • Walk up to the piazza

    • Shop in Montepulciano, buy copper pot

    • Wine pit stop at our favorite spot Enoteca La Dolce Vita

    • Dinner at Porto di Bacco

  • Return to La Chiusa – Wine on terrace, just us

Day 5 - October 5, 2021 - Cook in Tuscany

  • Went for a walk through the olive orchard and up to Montefollonico, just for the exercise – really enjoyable

  • Departure to cooking class with Antonella and Ada at Agritourismo Belagaggio

    • Lasagna noodles and lasagna

    • Stuffed zucchini flowers and fried zucchini slices

    • A creamy vegetable soup that had no cream but you’d swear it did

    • Crazy good dessert with creamy filling

    • Lunch on the terrace

    • Back to La Chiusa for a much-needed nap.

  • Departure to Bagno Vignoni and Pienza

    • Stop at Bagno Vignoni - the Roman baths

    • Stop at a couple of iconic photo opportunities

    • At Pienza, enjoyed gelato at Buon Gusto Gelateria

    • Free time to explore Pienza

    • Dinner at LaBandita Townhouse – Best burger ever

  • Return to La Chiusa

Day 6 - Wednesday, October 6, 2021 - Cook in Tuscany

  • Departure to Botte Piena Osmosi for Cooking with Elena

  • Depart to Andreucci Winery

    • Truffle hunt was cancelled due to rain

    • Dinner and wine tasting

Day 7 - Thursday, October 7, 2021 - Cook in Tuscany

  • Departure to Podere il Casale – the organic farm with "cholesterol-free" pigs

    • Cheese class

    • Bread making

    • Tasting lunch

  • Pizza dinner at La Chiusa

Day 8 - Friday, October 8, 2021 - Cook in Tuscany

  • Olive oil tasting at La Chiusa

  • Depart – walk – to Montefollonico

    • Drinks at Bar Sport

    • Ceramics store

    • Grocery store

    • Lunch at 13 Gobbi

  • Pasta class at La Chiusa

    • Plate painting

    • Gnocchi

    • Ravioli

    • Stuffed zucchini flowers

    • Crostini

  • Farewell dinner at La Chiusa
