Cook in Mexico 2017

Cañada de la Virgen - Cañada de la Virgen is an Otomi archaeological site that has been recently excavated. Located in the Mexican state of Guanajuato, the site was first excavated in 1995, while the official excavation began in 2002

Day 1 - 2/25/2017

  • Fly Fresno to Houston - had some oysters at some point.  Stayed in Houston overnight to allow timely arrival for scheduled transport in Mexico.

Day 2 - 2/26/2017

  • Fly Houston to Guanajuato Airport, Mexico

  • We and other guests of the tour picked up by driver, drive to San Miguel de Allende

  • Arrived at the Villa, our home for the week

  • Dinner at The Restaurant

Day 3 - 2/27/2017

  • Early morning walk - Hills, door knockers, and churros 

  • Cooking day with Paco

    • Purchased ingredients at local shops and the central market​

    • Made our lunch of tortillas, tacos, and several other things

    • Lunch in Paco's back yard

  • Dinner at the villa

Day 4 - 2/28/2017

  • Breakfast cooking class with local chef at the villa - Huevos Rancheros 

  • Trip tCañada de la Virgen - an Otomi archaeological site that has been recently excavated

  • Lunch and local beer at the villa

  • Cooking class and dinner at a local cooking school (forgot name)

    • Cilli Relleno (roasted, not fried)

    • Tres Leches

    • Salsas and other dishes

Day 5 - 3/1/2017

  • Cooking class and lunch at Marilau Mexican Ancestry Cooking School

    • Tamales

    • Salsa

    • Soup

  • Tequila tasting at the villa​ - roof-top at sunset

  • Dinner at a local gourmet restaurant...name not documented

Day 6 - 3/2/2017

Day 7 - 3/3/2017

  • Cooked breakfast at the casa

  • Watched traditional dancing in town square

  • Trip to an old church in the country

  • Stopped at a pretty cool museum / art store that had succulents and met a boxer

  • While in a taxi to dinner, was stopped by a wedding parade, so got out and joined the parade

  • Farewell dinner at a fine restaurant

Day 8 - 3/4/2017

  • A long trip home

  • I guess we had some oysters at some point on the trip home, not much else to share
